How to play: come to Tryouts
August 23rd Tryouts for Fall: 5:30-7:00 PM at the Potomac School REGISTER HERE
To participate in the Southeast Storm Field Hockey club, tryouts are required unless you are a current member of the club. We have tryouts before each season if we are accepting new players. Tryouts will be followed by a team placement within each age group.
Southeast Storm club teams require a weekly commitment to both practice and travel tournaments. Currently, the club fields teams in the U14, U16, and U19 age levels, with elite teams at the U16 and U19 level. These teams vary by season due to the age and number of participants. If we are able to field a U12 team in any given season, we will do so. The number of tournaments per team also varies by season and skill level.
Beyond Stick’s club affiliate team is Southeast Storm. We are separate but strongly aligned companies that work together to support one another in our complementary missions to grow the game, develop competitive hockey players, and empower young people through sport. Our current joint ventures entail school year club (Southeast Storm) and the Development Academy.
Southeast Storm Field Hockey Club is a USA Field Hockey Club based in Maryland with practice locations in Alexandria and McLean, VA and Washington DC. We focus on creating opportunities for players to grow and develop but also expose them to a competitive tournament schedule and practice environment. All players in the Storm program are focused on learning the skills and tactics frequently only used in the club, college, and international play. Players who tryout for club have the ability to move to our Elite teams; however, we expect new players to participate at the development or club level before transferring. The goal of our club players is to play at their personal best and return to their high school teams as leaders or enter college ready to make an impact.
If you aren’t able to commit to club, you can check out our development academy: an in-house program that involves 60-70% lessons and drills to grow your knowledge of the game and 30-40% play during each 2 hour practice. We run development options for 3rd graders and up throughout the year.
For both programs, we strive to teach a strong technical and tactical base of the game. We only employ USA Field Hockey certified and background checked coaches. We work to give all athletes the joy, confidence, and camaraderie that comes from playing field hockey and team sports.
