Fall is a place to develop skills as well as to have training in addition to their high school program. Our club teams practice on Saturdays and occasionally Sundays. They participate in one tournament once the fall high school season concludes. Our elite teams participate in 1-2 tournaments in addition to Festival for our U16 team and Shooting Star Tournament for our U19 team.
For our U16 and U19 teams, Shooting Stars and Festival will be our focus. Again, as we want players to work primarily with their school teams during the season, there are no games until after the high school season ends for our U16 and U19 age groups.
Winter focuses on two things: improving skill quickness and competing locally. Our club travel teams practice on Saturday and have 4 tournaments, usually Sunday. The elite teams will attend National USA Hockey Tournaments, including NIT, and compete against other top hockey clubs throughout the season.
In 2017 we will take a U19 team to the Top Recruit Showcase tournament in January. This will include practices on indoor turf (weather permitting) and attending the recruiting showcase.
In the spring, we are back outside and will hold weekly practices. In addition travel to tournaments for a 7 v 7 format. Club teams will have 4 competitive opportunities while our Elite U19 team will participate in JPOL and typically compete most weekends from April to June. There will also be several recruiting showcase opportunities.
In addition to our camps, Southeast will take a U14 team to the Disney tournament in July. We encourage our players to play in other camps to get a wide breadth of coaching and learn new techniques. The summer is often a time for families to recharge, so we play in the low-key summer league and weekly pick-up on Tuesday and Thursday at The Potomac School in McLean, VA.
As of 2016, Southeast Storm carries:
- 1 Under 12 team
- 2-3 Under 14 teams
- 4 Under 16 teams, including 1 Elite team
- 3 Under 19 teams, including 1 Elite team
Levels of Play:
Southeast Storm offers three different team levels for our U14, U16, and U19 age groups. We try to place girls on the team most appropriate for her skill level. If club currently isn’t an option for you, check out our Development Academy.
Training Academy: New to 2016-2017! Training Academy players are placed in teams and get similar training to our club programs but only participate in a few local play days. Tryouts required.
Club: Storm fields club teams for age groups U12, U14, U16, and U19. Club teams practice weekly and have 1-4 competitive opportunities depending on the season. The club team is a seasonal commitment and tryouts are required. You must be a member of USA Field Hockey affiliated with Southeast Storm.
Elite: The Elite teams are our most competitive team in the program for U16 and U19 age groups. Players in the Elite program participate in weekly, sometimes twice a week, practices, several competitive tournaments, and recruiting events throughout the season including Festival and Shooting Stars this fall. Tryouts required and this is typically a more intense, yearlong commitment. Tryouts in the fall with all other players only accepted on an individual basis. There is an attendance policy with penalties for unexcused practices. You must be a member of USA Field Hockey affiliated with Southeast Storm.
