Our team possesses extraordinary skills in breaking down the sport in a manner that helps all players develop and continue to love the game. Our team is committed to coaching and playing beyond the game.
All our sport related activities are created by experienced and certified coaches to ensure all players get the highest level of training possible yet we expect you to take our curriculum and make it your own. All leadership-based activities are adapted from the internationally recognized DiSC curriculum, Positive Coaching Alliance Materials and Beyond Sticks based practices. We adapt our character development sessions specifically for youth athletes.
Seasoned and highly qualified Directors are responsible for running our programs. All our Directors are qualified at a national level in their sport, have CPR training and background checks.
Beyond Sticks encourages players and families to use our camps to continue to grow their technical game and grow their mental game. Therefore, in addition to supporting accurate technical instruction, all our coaches support leadership development, self-awareness, mental toughness and teamwork. Staff must have a passion for empowering young people through sport. With this passion comes an understanding that all players are different and several approaches can and should be employed to ensure all campers have an exceptional experience.
We strive for a low coach to player ratio (15:1 for club and 10:1 for camp) to ensure our coaches and campers connect and can receive group and individual feedback. In turn, we encourage our coaches give honest feedback but ensure the overall approach is based on positive feedback training, which we teach in training. While constructive criticism is encouraged, our team does not demean or discourage a player in any way, ever. We aim to share our love of sport and the life lessons it taught us through a variety of programs. Finally, we aim to have a TON of fun and not take ourselves too seriously while we do all this.
All our coaches must go through USA field hockey training, Beyond Sticks leadership training, and have an ability to learn and accept feedback in order to continue to develop as coaches. Through our goal to “Play beyond the game” we have become one of the fastest growing youth sports company in Northern Virginia and earned a strong reputation within the community.
Our team of coaches consists of current players, former players and coaches at both the high school, college and international level. Pay contingent upon experience.
