Friends and Family,
Together with ALL of the Loudoun County field hockey club coaches and a number of terrific, dedicated, active parents of players, we have formed a new league, the Loudoun County League, in order to provide the best opportunity for high school and middle school girls in our county to play field hockey in the county — despite the fact that Loudoun County does not yet support field hockey as a Varsity sport.
Our ultimate goal is to do everything we possibly can to get Loudoun County to adopt field hockey as an official sponsored sport. However, until such time, we are going to run a high school league which includes 7th through 12th graders organized by their current or future high school. For specific schools that cannot field full teams, the teams will be joined with other schools that cannot field full teams. Each program will have Varsity and JV teams, to the best of the ability of the high school program to build the number of girls playing for the club. At Briar Woods/Rock Ridge, for example, we will have 3 teams this season: a Varsity team and two JV teams. We understand that we need to help each high school program become self-sufficient and sustainable from a player number perspective in order to approach the county about recognizing field hockey — even under an unfunded mandate where the girls can play on the school fields for practices and games but are otherwise unfunded by the county or the schools. At present, we cannot even practice on school grounds at any high school.
Our first activities (we formed officially last week) have involved securing turf field space and procuring goals and goalie equipment. In order to ensure that registrations for our league are reasonably affordable for players, we have decided to seek donations in order to procure equipment and extra field space, while having the registration fee primarily cover the cost of a minimum number of 1 practice and 1 game for each team each week and officials for games. We are also seeking corporate sponsors.
So, I am now reaching out to you to see if you are willing to make a donation to help us build the best foundation for high school and middle school field hockey in Loudoun County. We, the Loudoun County League (or LCL), are organized as a league under the Beyond Sticks “Play Beyond the Game” non-for-profit organization.
If you elect to make a donation, you will receive a letter back from us confirming the tax deductibility of your charitable contribution. For your ease of reference, the EIN for Play Beyond the Game, Inc. is 46-4834034. Beyond Sticks has created a sub account under this EIN for the LCL, ensuring your donation will be used to support our venture.
Finally, if you elect to make a donation, we would like to thank you in advance for your support! It means a significant amount to us!
